POSITION SUMMARY:

The Financial Insights Team formed in late 2019 with the goal of transforming Corporate Finance into a modern finance organization, where digital solutions and quantitative methods are employed to generate near-real time actionable financial insights for MassMutual’s business leaders.  As the Financial Insights team has grown over the past 3 years, we seek an experienced Business Intelligence (BI) Support Developer to ensure our reporting systems are running smoothly. 

The BI Support Developer will collaborate cross-functionally to identify issues and deliver sustainable solutions that meet business needs. Our ideal candidate is a problem solver, an effective communicator, highly organized, and is always driven to learn new skills. 

You’ll join a team of innovative, collaborative, and resourceful people who think differently, think big, and persevere through all challenges.

You’ll be able to:

Business as Usual

  • Monitor production support processes and report metrics related to scheduled jobs, data reconciliations, and production data flows
  • Triage and resolve issues raised by end users independently and collaboratively with ETX data engineering support team and/or Finance data management team
  • Perform adhoc data analyses and provide technical support as necessary
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Build processes for enhancing and troubleshooting performance, capabilities, and functional coverage of BI solutions (e.g., MicroStrategy, Tableau, etc.) 
  • Improve workflows and procedures
  • Stay up-to-date on latest trends and capabilities within BI industry and MassMutual
  • Summarize software update changes and proactively identify potential impacts to current Financial Insights products
  • Propose ways to implement new capabilities in existing products
  • Assist with testing after ETX software version updates
  • Teaming
  • Be a thought partner to other Financial Insights team members for the design, management, and documentation of solutions for new reports and dashboards to support business needs
  • Contribute to the team’s inclusive team environment that emphasizes continuous improvement, open communication, and solution delivery

Your experience includes:

  • B.S. degree
  • Analytics, data engineering, business intelligence, or a related field 
  • Data visualization tools including Tableau and MicroStrategy 
  • Advanced SQL, stored procedures, and columnar databases (Vertica preferred) 
  • Documenting technical workflows and specifications
  • Ability to seek guidance and learn new skills from peers
  • Strong written and oral communication

You’ll stand out if you have:

  • Experience with project management tools and methodologies such as Jira, Confluence, and Scrum 
  • Experience with markup languages such as HTML and CSS
  • Interest in dashboard building with a focus on user experience
  • Passion for developing high performance analytical solutions with demonstrated experience in optimizing reporting and visualization architecture 
  • Ability to deliver complex projects using effective planning, pragmatic approaches, and collaboration despite obstacles and ambiguity
